STAMFORD, NY - Known as the
"Snowbelt of the Catskills"

Stamford has always been blessed with nature's beautiful terrain and the cold, powdery white stuff that has made the area a natural setting for a winter wonderland. Until now, snowmobiling has been a well-kept secret in the Stamford area. Man-made and natural trails have been enjoyed only by those knowing the secret. Now, under the auspices of the Summit and Central Catskill Snowmobile Club - with a little help from the Chamber of Commerce, local businesses, and the good people of Stamford - a plan to make Stamford the "snowmobile capital" has begun.

Packed snowmobile trails will be the norm, not just a goal. Currently, there are a minimum of six packers manned by volunteers of the Summit and CCSC clubs, including a big Tucker machine that grooms the trails from Summit to Stamford and from Andes to Grand Gorge. And from Stamford, another 20 miles of former railroad tracks will be packed. These trails will connect with the 7C Corridor Trail, which goes all the way to Canada.

The Belvedere Country Inn at Stamford, is located right off the trail system. The Belvedere's parking lot is divided to provide private parking for sleds only.

The Belvedere's parking lot has a special section for sleds, just a few yards from the Inn.
The Belvedere is located just off the snowmobile trails, allowing for quick and easy snowmobile access.

Did you join the fun in this year's Snowmobile Poker Run events? Thanks to the abundant snowfall this year, Poker Run events were held in January and March 2005. More than 300 snowmobilers participated in the fun-filled, all-day events, which were sponsored by the Central Catskill Trail Association Snowmobile Club and hosted by The Belvedere Country Inn in Stamford, NY.

Watching the sleds arrive, from the Belvedere's front porch.

The Poker Run is a ride for fun. Sledders, riding in groups with friends and family, stop at five to seven assigned locations in order to get their poker cards. The events culminated at the final stop on the run - The Belvedere Country Inn, where prizes were awarded and sledders enjoyed a bountiful buffet dinner and danced to the sounds of the Belvedere's house DeeJay. The Belvedere was chosen to host the events because of its proximity to the snowmobile trails and because it offers the facilities needed for such an event, including meeting space, a restaurant and a full-service bar. From the Inn's front porch, you could watch the snowmobiles, with their headlights on, gliding down the mountain and into the parking lot. The Belvedere's parking lot, which is designed to accommodate both cars and snowmobiles, was filled with over 200 sleds!

As dusk falls, the stream of lights coming down the hill announced the arrival of more sleds.
